The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights instruments and labour standards.

The Danish Institute for Human Rights would like to share the Human Rights Guide to the SDGs database with you.

This fully searchable database, available in five languages, illustrates the concrete links between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights instruments and labour standards.

Thereby, human rights offer a legally binding framework and guidance for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, while the SDGs can contribute substantially to the realisation of human rights. The database is the essential tool for building upon this convergence and adopting a human rights-based approach to sustainable development programming, implementation and follow up and review.

How to use the guide – and who can use it?

The database allows you to search linkages between SDG goals, targets, human rights instruments, ILO Conventions and articles – and get a list of matches that you can also download for further analysis and reference.

All actors, including States, local authorities, civil society organisations, businesses, National Human Rights Institutions, regional human rights bodies, the UN-System and specific rights-holders such as women, children, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, migrant workers, can use the guide to pursue a human rights-based approach to sustainable development. More specifically, the Guide can help:

–          Base national, regional and global SDG action plans and implementation strategies on human rights and labour standards;

–          Incorporate existing human rights monitoring and reporting into SDG follow-up and review, and use expertise and recommendations from human rights monitoring and reporting processes at national, regional and global level to further guide implementation;

–          Identify additional national, regional and global indicators and promote an inclusive, transparent and participatory approach to implementation and follow-up and review processes at all levels.

We hope you will find the database useful. Please also feel free to share in your networks: http://sdg.humanrights.dk (hashtag for social media: #SDGs_humanrights).
